Transition & Belonging

Transition & Belonging Programs are initiatives, events, and opportunities dedicated to ensuring all UNC Charlotte students feel a sense of belonging at the start and through their Niner experience. We have Gold Rush, First 49, and I Am A First-Gen Niner programs to assist students in finding their people, and their community as they transition to and through their time here.

Gold Rush is UNC Charlotte's welcome program that kicks off each semester and welcomes new and returning students to the campus community. All Gold Rush events are free for students and are hosted by UNC Charlotte campus departments and student organizations. Gold Rush aims to instill a sense of Niner Pride, teach campus traditions, and expose students to campus resources and opportunities for involvement.

I Am A First-Gen Niner is a collaborative initiative to assist our First-Generation Niners on campus to feel proud of their First-Gen Identity and celebrate them as they pass milestones in their experience as a First-Generation Niner. What's a First-Generation Niner? A First-Generation Niner is a student who is the first in their immediate family to receive a degree from a four-year institution, this means neither their parents nor their guardians received a degree from a four-year institution.
