The mission of the UNC Charlotte Family Council is to enrich the 49er student and family experience by supporting impactful engagement opportunities, providing family perspectives, and promoting family philanthropic initiatives.

- Attend one 49er Family Council Scholarship meeting each spring semester
- Contribute an annual leadership gift of $2,500 to the 49er Family Fund

In 2017, the Family Council created an endowment to fund a student scholarship for academically successful continuing students who are engaged in their community. Scholarships are $1,000 each, and the first was distributed in fall 2019. Students are able to apply for the scholarship through the Niner Scholars portal each year.

Receiving this scholarship has greatly supported my academic journey at UNC Charlotte by easing financial stress and allowing me to focus more fully on my studies. It has also motivated me to continue striving for excellence, get involved on campus, and take advantage of opportunities that will help me grow both academically and professionally. I am deeply grateful for the investment in my future.

I wanted to first and foremost thank the Family Council for funding my education. This scholarship has already helped me pay for my books for this semester, and has already been a great help in understanding the material assigned to me. Thanks to the scholarship, I can focus on helping run my club, Tau Sigma. I am the current Vice President for this 2025-2026 school year. This will help me be able to juggle schoolwork and club activities simultaneously. This help has me more at ease knowing this community is supporting me and my education. Thank you for everything, Family Council, and go Niners!

I am incredibly grateful for this scholarship. This scholarship has truly given me the opportunity to focus more on school and less on my financial needs. I have certainly enjoyed this reduced stress, and I show this by attending events hosted on campus, such as the Student Organization Showcase and RecFest. I also appreciate the variety of clubs and campus life here at this university; it is wonderful to have so many opportunities outside of class. As for academics, I was able to afford my textbooks for my chemistry, biology, and bioinformatics classes, allowing me to focus on my studies.

As a junior in the Business Honors Program at UNC Charlotte, I am deeply grateful for the opportunities and support this university has provided throughout my undergraduate journey. From student organizations to academic programs and campus leadership roles, UNC Charlotte has equipped me with the tools, recognition, and confidence to succeed. These experiences have led to various honors and helped me secure a marketing internship in the banking industry.
The support of the Family Council Scholarship has been especially impactful in helping me focus on my academics and professional growth, while easing financial pressures. This investment in my education motivates me to continue striving for excellence and inspires me to pay it forward by supporting future students in the years ahead.

I am a first-generation college student studying Mechanical Engineering. While at UNC Charlotte I have developed a strong passion for volunteering through the National Society of Black Engineers chapter and W.S. Lee College of Engineering Leadership academy to promote stem education in the Charlotte community.
Academically, I have continued to excel, earning placement on the Chancellor’s List for the third consecutive semester while continually striving to deepen my knowledge of engineering. The impact of the Family Council Scholarship will allow me to focus more on my academic journey to pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering and reduce my financial burden. Lastly, I would like to thank all members of the Family Council for your commitment to supporting such a great cause.
